It could be even better if ...

From the newspaper article “Textile and apparel exports to record"
.
"The textiles and clothing
will finish the year with an increase of 5% of exports. The case will be the largest percentage growth in the last decade. By October, the industry exported 3,049 million euros, 4.8% more than in previous year." (ccz here: The numbers could be better still if not for the textile association associative discourse that distracts some companies from seeking new ways of competing beyond price. A different speech from the association could help companies to understand why buyers who fled to China are returning. This would help firms to open up their eyes and realize, and become aware of the advantage of geographic location, of speed of delivery and easy/fast/cheap replacement of sell-out SKUs. I bet that many companies are so happy with the return of European buyers that do not realize, that now they have the potential to play in another league. They can play in the championship of service and not of the price ... and not realizing that, they will leave lots of money on the table to be picked up by buyers. ...
No surprise!
.
What would you expect from
an
industry association in an European country worried about imports from Pakistan! They waste a lot of time and energy defending the past rather than helping to build the future.
)

"Leveraging  this growth are the sectors of yarns and fabrics and home textiles, and although in the clothing, the chapter of knitted garments (which has a weight of over 40% in exports of this industry) shows a decline, the sector is optimistic.

The drop in exports knitted garments is, in the opinion of Paul Vaz, "marginal", standing at 0.1% in October, much lower than in the previous year. This improvement is due in part to the return of European buyers. "(ccz here: I’m almost willing to bet that most of the leaders of the association belong to the row of knitted garments and that of yarn and fabrics and textiles home are less represented. Companies of knitted garments rely too much on the leaders of the association talk, so what they say and argue are prophecies that become self-fulfilling. They are waiting for the pressures of the association on political power to bear fruit ... as if European politicians were receptive to protectionist measures and propose that old recipes! I bet the people of the home textiles, for example, chose to follow initiatives similar to such as Vamaltex. Look at the title I gave to the post in June 2007, pre-August 2007 "" In bed with Siza Vieira "can you detect a pattern to emerge from the crisis?".)
.
"" Now you begin to see the return of buyers who went to China. Result of unsuccessful experiments, and due to rising costs and needs to have quick reversals of articles in good time
"(ccz here: This is the key to the garment industry of fashion! Study what David Birnbaum wrote about the fashion industry and how it loses lots of money with production in Asia. Instead of just seizing the change of the tide, cheat, accelerate full steam, speed, flexibility, variety, small series, and you will see the advantage over the gap from Asia to increase further. I love to cheat!), said the president of the National Association of Manufacturers of Apparel and Clothing (ANIVEC / APIV), Alexandre Pinheiro. A return which meant an increase in work for the garment industry of fashion in 2010.

"Clearly, the numbers themselves are reasonable. Right now, our fashion apparel industry is experiencing a good moment, in fact, more work in companies that have resisted", says the president of ANIVEC / APIV. "
.
"In Nortenha Textile Company, ETN, exports represent 92% of turnover and, in 2010, up 8%, reaching about 11 million euros. ETN produces garments for several international brands that have strengthened their purchases." Given the economic fluctuations and cost rises in competing countries, the major brands of quality are back into Portugal, "added the Administrator of ETN, Ines Branco. Among the various markets to which they export, says Ines Branco, Italy was the one who stepped up purchases. (
ccz here: And this raises no mental itchs in the association? Why is it that Italians are returning in force? Slovenia is closer, Croatia is closer, Romania is closer, Albania is closer. All have lower wages than Portugal, and yet they are returning. What are they finding in Portugal that those countries can’t give them?) The ETN has as main markets, the United Kingdom, Germany, France and the United States. (ccz here: Another fact contributing to my theory that we do not need to increase the competitiveness of exporting SMEs, they are already competitive. What we need is more exporting SMEs !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!)

In the field of fabric and yarn, too, Somelos saw a rise in demand. The company exports 90% of its production, according to the administrator, Almeida Santos, 2009 to 2010, exports rose 15% boosted by demand from markets in Italy and England. "(ccz here: Following the example of Endutex and Domino, companies that I mentioned this month and export 72 and 60% of their turnover, just to avoid speaking about the shoe industry that exports more than 95% of their production)
